It is often said that curiosity killed the cat, yet an equally enduring notion suggests that cats possess nine lives. According to a theory put forth by ‘catisticians’ the inherent perils of a cat's curiosity led them to conclude that nine lives would be a far more efficient proposition than just one. This arrangement granted them the freedom they so ardently craved, along with ample time to luxuriate in snug corners, exude an air of bemusement, nap atop pristine piles of laundry, wear an air of apathy, explore the great outdoors, pounce on any moving object, cast disapproving glances, and even exhibit a curious fear of cucumbers. Once cats seemingly mastered the art of putting mortality on ‘paws’, they were liberated to approach life with the unique blend of gusto, agility, courage, and occasional recklessness that only cats can manifest. In his photographic work, Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek endeavors to capture the aerial acrobatics of these remarkable creatures, introducing his images of Ume, Elli, Flitzie, Nevio, and Fiffy to the world. <meta charset="UTF-8">Now, you can relish one of the photos from this series, beautifully displayed on your wall.

Stefan Heyer is a German contemporary artist working in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. His gestural abstract paintings are an exploration of histories, both personal and shared, and are inspired by pop culture, esoteric and philosophical issues of our postmodern digital age, alienation, nature, and history in general. His journey to a career in the arts was not born of privilege but of passion.
Experiencing the DIY attitude of the 1980s and 1990s, it was this aesthetic underground rather than academic training that developed Stefan Heyer’s style and consciousness of art. After a career in street fashion as an art and creative director, he went full-time as an artist in 2008.
His work can be found in private collections around the world. Heyer is represented by galleries in the USA (Gallery MAR, Utah, and Simchowitz/Creative Partners in Los Angeles), Grainger Gallery (Australia), DB Contemporary Art (Düsseldorf, Germany), Kunsthaus Artes (Hannover/Berlin, Germany), and JPB-ART Gallery (Saint Tropez, France).
ABOUT THE WORK 
"This painting was the key piece of my work on raw canvas from 2019–2021, a highly transformational period for my artistic practise and also personally: I moved from Hamburg to Spain. As a visualisation of an inner landscape fed by impressions and scents from past travels, the work is also a kind of cosmic mind map, a personal spiritual journey through the Pleroma, a boundless, impersonal space at the root ground of the human soul that encompasses its conscious and unconscious lives. According to Carl Gustav Jung, the soul is the intrapsychic definition of this fullness.
Photo-transferred images of mid-century modern architecture, my alter ego Le Mat/The Fool of the Original Tarot de Marseille, a portrait of musician Frank Ocean, old photos of shamanic rituals I found on the Web, and an image of Ghana's capital Accra Agbogbloshie, home to one of Africa's largest e-waste dumps, as a metaphor of what went wrong on our planet and what we have to solve and overcome as a civilization, are interwoven with my mixed media of oil brush strokes, handwritten words, oil pastel, and pencil lines and marks." – Stefan Heyer

Joachim Bosse is a conceptual artist living and working in Berlin. Using hyperrealistic sculptures, typography, and mixed media, he deals with consumerism, the influences of mass media, and the impact of echo chambers and social eco-systems in the digital age. He remixes pop culture and recontextualizes famous iconography in order to question contemporary identities and cultural values. Bosse describes his work as public messaging.
ABOUT THE WORK "OMG, this was my first artwork ever. Until today, it felt like my firstborn, with whom I had a very close and special relationship.
I remember carrying around the idea for this sculpture for two years, not knowing how to bring it to life. Since it feels like a modern icon to me, representing today's society oscillating between the remains of analogue reality and searching for a new belief, purpose, and belonging in a realm of digital uncertainty, I was scared and nervous someone else would come up with the idea as well, being able to produce it before me.
When I finally was able to carve the face and body, to fully create and release it, I was blown away by the world-wide recognition as an artist and coverage by international media outlets such as Hypebeast and HIGHSNOBIETY, followed up by exhibitions and AR-experiences.
That’s why today I’m proud to be able to release my first fine art print ever with the first artwork I started my career with. It feels like a new beginning, and I’m proud to share it." – Joachim Bosse

But they also show the continuation, the non-giving up, when all you want to do is scream. I threw up my heart on the canvas until I could breathe again. They remind me that I carry a gift inside me. Isis Maria Niedecken is a Berlin-based artist. Since graduating from her Bachelor in Fashion Design, she has worked in various areas of the fashion and design industries. Her paintings capture small moments of joy in contemporary snapshots. Inspired by the colorful apartment where she lives with her husband and son, her images portray everyday life while telling their own stories. Living with a three-year-old and experiencing the world through his eyes is an important source of inspiration. His perception and associations play a major role in her work. Isis Maria's goal is to find beauty in everyday moments and make them tangible for others.
ABOUT THE WORK "ABENDBROT is a colorful and vivid still life painted in acrylic on canvas. The painting captures a dinner with friends and their children. The bold colors and crowded composition underline the chaotic energy that emerges when there are kids involved at a dinner table. This strategy refers, among other cultural backgrounds and phenomena, to the digital meme culture, which ties in with the popular genres and visual strategies of gaming, comics, and advertising. The artist mixes direct-address communication strategies with the mirror as a pictorial space, creating a multidimensional experience for the viewer. In this space, reality and virtuality blur together, and the subject is thrown back onto intimate, psychological levels of self-observation. Moments of introspection and transformation are presented in a multidimensional manner.
The artist incorporates Freudian (self) questioning and mythological narratives, such as that of Narcissus, to provide an ironic and empathetic commentary on an increasingly narcissistic society. This society is mirrored here in its collective numbing of the representations within social media. Crocodiles Are Hunting

If you could only use one word to describe Vreni Frost, it would probably be: COLORFUL. The presenter, author, and speaker not only knows how to breathe life into words, she also brings paper and canvas to life. She made her debut as an artist in 2021 at the renowned HVW8 Art + Design Gallery (Berlin/Los Angeles) with her FACES series. This was followed in 2022 by, among other things, her first solo exhibition at Berlin Art Week, a charity auction at Christie's on the occasion of the Millerntor Gallery in Hamburg, and a collaboration with the chocolate manufacturer Sawade. DEJLIG

The series SEARCHING STILL by Aaron Penne observes elusive and intangible sensations such as the feeling of a memory, a longing or a search. The artist strikes a balance between the machine and the human touch, creating fluid, painterly forms from hard-edge digital artifacts. Created on a Raspberry Pi using Python code, selected carefully by the artist from more than 800 outputs.
Penne draws parallels with early abstract artworks by Hilma af Klimt, whose compositions originated from a place of divination. In her work, the artist almost acted as a spiritual medium, opening herself to the influence of unseen forces and creating surprising compositions for their own sake.
This is not unlike the trust that generative artists put in their pseudorandom number generators. Artists creating abstract work using generative techniques gather their tools, open their minds, and let chance drive the composition. The visual language in SEARCHING STILL carries forward from abstract art, but there is also a conceptual lineage of intentionally opening oneself to infinite possibilities.

Jack Winthrop is an accomplished artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota (born July 26th, 1989) who recently moved to Los Angeles after living and working in New York City for a decade. When he was developing his style as a child, drawing and creating were like breathing. Almost involuntary. Winthrop’s curiosity drove him and his diligence to create new things on a daily basis.
 Winthrop mostly paints large-scale paintings on canvas. Manoeuvring between an eclectic range of styles and subjects, he challenges the conventional and explores the boundaries between fine art and subculture or street culture. By breaking down the human form, he creates work appealing like a mirror that transcends the filter we perceive as ourselves.

Faster, 2022

The work TIME by Paul Schrader follows on from the large-scale works LIGHT and TOO MUCH CANDY from 2020 and is composed primarily of the colors yellow and red. The background consisting of spray paint is reminiscent of the graffiti of the early 90s. Like an infinito, the paint application on the right side is partially hidden by the background again, so the background suddenly comes to the foreground, especially at the edges of the color. The fine color nuances merge at closer look into delicate tones like poetry. Out of yellow and red a delicate orange tone emerges in hundreds of shades. The red and white blend into a berry hue. Through the interlocking of the individual colors create a rush like a melody in music.
"I love the sensual approach to art, the worlds of color and their composition on the canvas. Although the moment of movement has long since passed, the movement has an effect right into the now and yet is frozen on the canvas, in a time capsule. Fine nuances of color merge on closer inspection into delicate Tonë like poetry. From yellow and blue, for example, a delicate shade of green can emerge in hundreds of nuances. Red and blue can blend into an intense violet. These intermediate areas fascinate me. Through the interlocking of the individual colors and their composition on the canvas creates an intoxication like a melody in music.

"'The secret to success' is the title of my bodybuilder painting. Bodybuilding is a subject I have made fun of since I was a kid. I never understood why anyone would spend so much time lifting weights to compete with other people to see who had the nicest body. It always seemed so pointless to me. But at some stage, I saw it differently: what inspired me was their determination and perseverance shaping their body. In order to keep their body in shape, they are repeating the same thing every day – lifting weights. What I find interesting in painting these muscular bodies is how our human mind sees those bodies and what we associate with them. Even the ancient Greeks had statues of their best athletes with very muscular bodies that represented success, fame and respect. When I saw bodybuilders as a kid, I had the impression: 'wow, those guys are so big and strong, they must be as strong as superheroes.' Besides that, my bodybuilder images have certain humor that I like to incorporate into my work. I still think bodybuilding is something pretty pointless – even boring. Oiled-up guys and girls compete to see who has nicer and bigger muscles. But since I have been using airbrush, I find it super fun and interesting to paint these shiny, oiled-up, muscular bodies. Determination, perseverance and hard work is the bodybuilder's 'secret to success'. Anstatt sich nur auf Details zu konzentrieren, schafft sie eine minimalistische Darstellung dessen, was sie sieht, und versteht das Thema, ohne zu versuchen Formen über Farben zu korrigieren. Ihre Motive wie Essen, Tiere, Landschaften und Porträts sind zeitgenössisch, aber zeitlos.  ABOUT PLOTTER DRAWINGS Plotter drawings are line drawings. A mechanical drawing machine, the plotter, is controlled and driven by a computer program. The drawing pen clamped into the machine moves across the paper and draws, almost like a mechanical hand. Simply put, this hand responds to three commands: lift the pen, place the pen on the paper, and move the pen. When the move pen command meets the pen is down situation, a stroke is created.

ABOUT MATH ART In 1980, Herbert W. Franke began a fifteen-year collaboration with programmer Horst Helbig at the German Aerospace Center. Together, they studied mathematical disciplines in relation to aesthetics. The series MATH ART is the output of their research at the intersection of science and art. It reveals a universe of numbers transformed into images through a variety of shapes and colors reminiscent of Pop Art. 
Throughout his entire life, Herbert W. Franke used mathematical principles for art experimentation. From the very beginning, it was clear to him that it is the artist's mission to examine new technologies and their social significance through the lens of their creative potential. For Herbert W. Franke mathematics are the essence of visual arts. While he saw the artist as an analytical maker using mathematics to create structures, he assigned the computer the task of modulating these principles of order through varying random processes. Franke, therefore, considered the computer as a creative partner for the artist very early on.
The color served to code certain structural elements and was of fundamental importance. The computer system at DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen, which was powerful at the time, had integrated output equipment with which the digitally developed image worlds were transferred directly to high-resolution photo film. On his own DOS PC, Franke created the preparatory work for the captivatingly vivid aesthetics of this mathematical investigation.
In the beginning, there were algebraic formulas for three-dimensional spatial areas: The three dimensions were converted into two-dimensional landscapes, whereby the "contour lines," i.e., the z-axis of the room, were color-coded with specially developed color grids. Starting with algebraic landscapes, the two worked their way through a wide variety of disciplines via wave functions, Fourier transformations, broken dimensions, and logical connections, until they finally visualized complex and irrational numbers as well as random processes and logical connections with their method.

Math Art

DRAKULA stands for Dragon Curves Superimposed (German: Drachenkurven überlagert). The dragon curve is a fractal object. The basic idea was first explored by NASA physicists John Heighway, Bruce Banks, and William Harter and described by Martin Gardner in his 1967 Mathematical Games column in Scientific American. However, the mathematical theory for this was not developed until 1970 by the mathematician Chandler Davis and the computer scientist Donald Knuth.

Dragon curves are created by sequences of left and right turns according to certain rules. The program allows dragon curves of different orders – or sections of them – to be lined up and superimposed. Left and right turns were not only represented in the usual way by right-angled bends but also by mathematically defined elements, such as triangles or curved sections of curves with multiple curves. These elements were designed in such a way that when they are superimposed, clearly recognizable new form elements are created through overlaps and attachments. The superimposition of closed curves in different colors is particularly attractive. The dragon curves were also interesting for Franke as an object of experimental aesthetics and for his studies on information psychology, since here the rare case of an easy possibility of specifying their statistical information (complexity) occurs; this is equal to the number of 0,1 indications used to construct it.

Franke also overlaid dragon curves – mostly mirrored – and not only used straight lines as individual elements but also other shapes, such as semicircles or triangles, as basic elements.

The pictures of DRAKULA were made with a Siemens System 4004. The Fortran program was written by Peter Henne from the Gesellschaft für Datenverarbeitung GMD according to detailed specifications from Franke. The plots were realized by Peter Vordermaier at Siemens AG. A complete printout of the program is available.

For several decades he separated three lives: he was the caver and scientist, the artist and curator, the art theorist and the science fiction author. Only on the occasion his solo exhibition in 2010 at the ZKM Karlsruhe did he bring these three lives and careers together under the title "Wanderer Between the Worlds". In the early 1950s caving led him to experiment with light and technology. He kept his curiosity throughout his life; it was his drive to examine new technologies for their artistic potential. His pioneering spirit made him one of the first computer artists who was more than six decades ahead of his time. Franke discussed his visionary practice with Anika Meier in June 2022.

GOLD FUTURES by James Bloom (Crashblossom) are three distinct digital visions presented in a physical paper format. Each one provides a different flavour of digital enticement. They contain glimpses of figurative scenes, but with digital iconography mixed in. They are flat yet also 3-dimensional. They are abstracted from reality but have a vivid presence. These printed images assert their digitalness.
Like the dynamic blockchain art series GOLD they derive from, the artworks have bright and optimistic palettes, reflecting how the digital world is often presented to attract us. They are composed from web clipart libraries, common 2D icons used in interface design or corporate presentations. This imagery is extruded into 3D, saved out as flat 2D again, then composed together on-the-fly with dynamic code, which also introduces randomness. Single snapshots in time are chosen by the artist.
With GOLD FUTURES, the artist explores how digital media present an optimistic vision to entice us to engage. But he is not negative about technology, instead asserting its importance to art in an age where we are surrounded by the digital. Bloom believes the digital and physical are simply the same thing—the world itself—expressed through different modes of representation.

A CHILD’S MACHIAVELLI by Claudia Hart was initially written and illustrated by the artist in 1995, inspired by Niccolo Machiavelli’s Renaissance treatise, THE PRINCE, the first book of political philosophy. Hart’s version began as a series of oil paintings and a small catalog, produced by the Realismus Studio, at the Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst, Berlin in 1995.
The catalog was eventually released as an expanded hardcover by Penguin USA in 1998, along with German and French editions.
While keeping to the meaning of the original, Hart rewrote THE PRINCE, reflecting street values and the voice of youth culture, as if Machiavelli’s book, meant to advise kings on seizing power, was a primer to teach good manners to small children.

A CHILD’S MACHIAVELLI: THE BEGINNING A CHILD’S MACHIAVELLI was initially written and illustrated by Claudia Hart in 1995. A CHILD'S MACHIAVELLI: THE BOOK In the bookstore of NGBK, Hart fell in love with Comix, a back then radical form of comic books that filled one of their shelves. She read them, fascinated. There was no such thing as a graphic novel in those days. MAUS by Art Spiegelman, the Comix masterpiece, had just been released. Hart would stand around the NGBK bookstore, reading MAUS and other related works.
"I was a figurative artist interested in historical paintings, not comic books. Nevertheless, I was inspired," Hart says.
Her response was A CHILD'S MACHIAVELLI, born as a series of 31 oil paintings, where she rewrote the Renaissance treatise by Niccolo Machiavelli as a children’s book, speaking in the youth-speak of her time. She was reflecting on the real estate and cultural war taking place in the early 1990s in Berlin. Her aphorisms focused on the workings of power. But the strategy was the same as for all of the other works she has produced since the beginning: text combined with images. It is a series of aphorisms in an illustrated book that does not need to be read in order. Each painting was a unique piece that could be combined in any order. The book has proven prescient, prefiguring the brutal tenor of contemporary US public discourse.
WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION The catalog was eventually released as an expanded hardcover by Penguin Edition USA in 1998. In addition, there was a Nautilus Edition German version published in 1996, and an Abbeville Press French edition published in 1998. At that time, Hart reinterpreted the oil paintings to produce the series of gouache paintings on paper exhibited at EXPANDED.ART.

The book went out of print in 2000 but continues to be traded on the second-hand book market.

In celebration of youth culture and coming-of-age tropes, "NO, DON'T DISAPPEAR [WM-2]" from Skye Nicolas' Walkman series elevates portable music devices such as the Sony Walkman as cerebral or dematerialized readymades: conceptual digital representations of physical objects contextualized as digital artifacts containing data.
The series typifies Nicolas<meta charset="utf-8">' pixel paintings in which remixed images are reduced to their essential structure, the outline. Graphic elements are streamlined into nebulous shimmering pixels that dance across the contrasting dark background of the digital canvas. Declarative statements glide across the screen (often lifted from 1980’s and 1990’s era song lyrics), serve as both internal dialogue and a crucial visual detail to complete the digital painting’s overall composition. The result of this process of reduction and layered storytelling is a visually poetic distillation in which the viewer finds themselves occupying; an intangible dreamscape atmosphere arousing an induced nostalgia that seduces and captivates the senses.

STELLA NOVA by JULIEN ESPAGNON is a generative curated project. It's the result of much research and variations of a plastic exploration of an event: the Supernovas. This series is based on the principle of cutting and splitting shapes, allowing the discovery of the different phases of the death of a star. The result is an abstract visual interpretation of the chaos coming from the explosion. It is after many explorations—first focused on the figurative and organic aspect of the result, followed by the abstraction of the form by its geometrization—that this work progresses around colors in order to reflect the luminosity of this event. Stella Nova

As far as images of femininity and debates about beauty ideals are concerned, Swedish artist Arvida Byström is one of the leading voices on social media and beyond. Using selfie sticks and fruit in underwear, she updates the genres of portrait and still life for the 21st century with Internet culture in mind. Her visual language is cute and girlish, and she employs the color pink as a symbol of femininity without irony. Technology has always been present in Byström’s works, in the form of smartphones and laptops. She speaks to a generation of people who pick up their smartphones first thing in the morning and only put them down when they are about to shut their eyes at night. Does technology rule over us and our bodies, or are we the ones who rule over technology?

BLOODY BLOOD ORANGES is a photograph from Margaret Murphy’s series “I Could Look at You All Day", made in 2020. The project consists of self-portraits and still lives made in Murphy’s home. The pictures visualize her interest in self-perception, consider the male gaze and play amongst social media’s influence on contemporary photography.
John Berger writes in WAYS OF SEEING, that a woman must simultaneously be both "the surveyor" and “the surveyed” because how she appears to those outside herself is critical to her success in life. Murphy’s photographs ask how this concept—and internalized misogyny—shapes the way we understand ourselves in the world. The companionship of still lives and portraiture in the project invites the viewer to survey moments of intimacy, reflection, disgust, celebration, and ambivalence within the world of Murphy's creation: a woman in flux between the standards set before her and the standards that she inherently feels exist within her.
